Tripunithura under water scarcity

One-third of the Muvattupuzha river is dry.

Water supply to Tripunithura continues to be low for the last two days as only half of the 35 lakh litre supply tank could be filled.

Only one pump at the Kerala Water Authority’s water treatment plant at Choondy worked as the level of water could not be sustained even after cutting a channel from the other end of the river to draw water into the intake well. One-third of the Muvattupuzha river is dry at Choondi.

To resolve the issue immediately, a temporary bund will be built at Choondi to bring in more water into the intake well. The work is said to begin on Thursday and is expected to be completed in about five days. The bund is expected to turn the water to the intake well. But pumping could be affected if the water flow is low. More water from the Malankara dam would be required to replenish the water in the river, said a Kerala Water Authority’s official.
