This triangle will alert motorists of risks ahead

A model of the orange triangle that Team Orange Alert Group is planning to draw on roads to warn motorists.

With the number of potholes going up by the day, a group of volunteers has decided to go to the aid of motorists who are unaware of the condition of the road.

Accordingly, orange triangles will be drawn on the road 50 metres ahead of a bad patch or dangerous potholes.

“We appreciate that the authorities are alive to the situation but are constrained by the weather conditions and the usual procedural delays,” said Team Orange Alert Group convenor Lakshmi Menon on Thursday.

“Naturally, the repair process takes its own time. But in the interim period, accidents may and do happen, and lives and limbs are being lost,” she added.

“To help avert this type of mishaps, we, a group of concerned volunteers, propose to supplement the official efforts by painting temporary orange triangles in a line across the road on either side of the bad patch in order to alert motorists,” Ms. Menon said.

To begin with, Team Orange put the alert on Thursday on Maradu road near Kundannoor Junction where interlock tiles have been laid in some areas.

St. Benedict’s Road near Ayyappankavu is another point where Orange Alert will become active.
