Taxi, auto strike partial

Conventional taxis must be adaptive to innovations, says transportation expert

The strike by autorickshaw and taxi car operators, demanding a ban on online taxi companies, remained partial in the city on Thursday. The Auto Taxi Thozhilali Samyukta Samara Samithi claimed that no taxi car had operated in the city on Thursday.

The strike had little impact, as members of the Kerala State Motor Transport Workers’ Coordination Committee – an umbrella organisation of all prominent worker trade unions – kept away from the strike.

The agitators claimed the strike was a success. “Taxi cabs at the international airport at Nedumbassery and those operating in Willingdon Island remained off the road,” said Soli George, general convenor of the Auto Taxi Thozhilali Samyukta Samara Samithi. He added that a protest march would be taken out to the Secretariat on October 4, raising various demands.
