Sanitation scheme: DPC nod for 75 panchayats

An ad hoc meeting of the District Planning Committee (DPC) on Thursday gave approval to a list of 75 panchayats as part of declaring Ernakulam district Open Defecation Free (ODF) by November 1.

District panchayat president Asha Sanil, who presided over the meeting, said a list of remaining panchayats would be presented at the next meeting.

Ms. Sanil said no further assistance would be available to revamp toilets alongside houses built under the Indira Awas Yojana.

Building for Anganwadis

Anganwadis without own buildings had been asked to file reports at the earliest. Assistance to the tune of Rs.5 lakh under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and Rs.2 lakh at the department-level would be allotted for constructing Anganwadi building. The meeting approved 127 projects of Thrikkakara municipality under the Ayyankali employment guarantee scheme. Around 590 families will benefit from it.
