Overbridge project hits roadblock

Delay in construction of bridge causes traffic congestion at Thripunithura

Lost link:The construction of the overbridge at Eroor has been hit owing to delay in getting permission from the Railways for placing girders.

The construction of the Eroor railway gate overbridge at Thripunithura has been hit, thanks to delay in obtaining the Railway Safety Commissioner’s permission for placing girders across the track.

While officials of the Railways and the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK) are hopeful of getting permission, the delay in the construction of the overbridge is causing regular traffic congestion on roads in Thripunithura.

Though it appears that no work has been done on approach roads for a long time, RBDCK officials claimed that only 20 per cent of work remained to be completed, including that on a span which can be completed only after the Railway part of the construction is over.

“The work could have been completed by May end if the Railways had granted permission early,” an official said. Meanwhile, municipal chairperson R. Chandrika Devi said a delegation had already met Railway officials seeking permission for placing girders. Once the Eroor bridge is in place, motorists from Thripunithura can reach Palarivattom and Kaloor through the Eroor-Vennala road.

Metro work

With the main road from Vyttila to Petta getting congested owing to the Kochi metro work, motorists are using the Kaniyampuzha Road to reach Thripunithura from Vyttila.
