One of the main accused nabbed in Hamsa murder case

In a breakthrough for CBI in the Hamsa Murder case, the investigating agency has arrested one of the main accused from Chennai, top CBI sources said.

The accused, A C Abdullah, the sixth accused in the case was arrested from Chennai and was being brought to Kochi, CBI sources told PTI.

The arrest is after 21 years of the incident.

The case relate to the killing of Hamsa, a police informer on April 29, 1989.

The Local police and Crime Branch investigated the case after which CBI conducted further investigation.

The CBI case was that rivalry between the two gangs engaged in smuggling had led to the murder of Hamsa who had tipped off the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) about the smuggling of gold biscuits by a rival gang.

Following Hamsa’s disclosure DRI had seized gold biscuits worth Rs.six crore which had been brought to Kasargod.

CBI had filed chargesheets of 19 accused of which 4 are still absconding.

Hamsa was shot dead at Poinachi on the National Highway between Kasaragod and Kanhangad.
