Kozhikode thrived under LDF rule: Minister

Industries Minister Elamaran Karim has said that four years of Communist Party of India-Marxist -led Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule in the State have witnessed significant growth, particularly in Kozhikode district.

He was inaugurating the fourth anniversary celebrations of the LDF government here on Saturday.

There had been significant development in the tourism, industry and electricity sectors in the district, Mr. Karim said.

He said the district was nearing the target of total electrification. The major investments made in the tourism sector were visible on the Kozhikode beach and at Kappad which were being dressed up to attract tourists. Thusharagiri and Iringal were fast emerging as favourite tourist spots.

Mr. Karim said the cyber parks coming up here were major achievements of the government, capable of changing the social and economic profile of the district. The government had taken extra efforts to set up the IT parks in the district.

It was also determined to develop an IT park in Kannur.

He highlighted the financial management of State in the past four years as another success story of the government. Government treasuries had been functioning smoothly.

Mr. Karim said there had been signs of revival in the industrial sector and he was confident that Kinaloor, which was recently in the eye of a storm owing to attempts by some groups to disrupt development of a four-lane road there, would see major development in the coming years.
