With the dangers of climate change looming large, individuals and organisations came together on a unique platform, Earth Hour, for the larger cause of saving the planet, on Saturday evening.

The observance of the ‘hour' demonstrated the will of the people to reduce consumption of power in a bid to rejuvenate the planet.

The preparations for observing Earth Hour were proof of the new wave of awareness sweeping across the world. Kochi joined the bandwagon and the number of organisations taking part in the one-hour programme to switch off lights was on the rise.

A host of reputed companies had been supporting the movement ever since the initiative was launched a few years ago. This year, many more companies, both in the large and small segments, extended support to the event. The larger benefits of the extended grasp of the ground reality would accrue in the times ahead when there would be less stress on power.

Hotel groups like Abad, Taj (Gateway), Le Meridien and financial institutions like ICICI Bank, Federal Bank were among the organisations that joined the symbolic observance of Earth Hour by switching off electric bulbs between 8.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. on Saturday.
