As heart diseases take centre-stage in the State’s health problems, preventive measures is what the new treatment methodology mostly talks about. The disease had perhaps been among the top in the list of diseases that have seen major changes in treatment modalities as well. An entirely new generation of protocols have come about in looking at heart diseases. And preventive cardiology takes the top slot. All treatments after one gets a heart disease is a kind of patchwork for the body if one does not do anything about the risk factors, said Dr. Thayyil. Hence, prevention is the best way to get around heart diseases. The cost of a family goes up by 40 per cent if there is a member with heart disease and if the person affected is the breadwinner of the family, the concern of keeping the same pace at work will cause further problems. The general public needs to know that it is a preventable disease, so these books, he said.
