In a clear message to the CPI(M), which is clearly uncomfortable with the CPI accepting its former members, CPI State secretary Kanam Rajendran said people who left the Communist party could not be asked to go to the Congress or the BJP.
He was speaking at a function on Monday at Nadakkavu where former CPI(M) workers joined the CPI.
“Strengthening the Left is the need of the hour. The CPI’s policy is that Communist parties should present a united force against autocratic tendencies,” Mr. Rajendran said. He added that the CPI wanted to work with outfits like the CPI(ML) and the CPI(Maoist) for furthering this policy.
The CPI leader revealed that alleged Maoist leader Rupesh had written to him from jail, thanking for criticising his arrest. “Protesting voices are being muzzled to protect the interest of the rulers. The CPI has a different stance on it,” he said. “Modern politics calls for the strengthening of the Left. While such efforts are being made, people who leave one Communist party and desire to come along with us cannot be asked to go to the Congress or the BJP,” Mr. Rajendran added.
“These leaders continue to have a place in the hearts of people. Their decision to come to the CPI is a recognition of their public acceptance,” he added.
The CPI’s policy is that Communist parties should present a united force against autocratic tendencies.
