Suggestions on modernising the detailed project report of the Kochi metro rail will be placed before the director board of the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), which will meet in Kochi on October 19.
This was decided by a sub-committee formed for the purpose, which met on Thursday in New Delhi.
The board will take a call on these suggestions, it was decided at the meeting. The DPR was prepared by the DMRC in 2005. The KMRL board had said that Kochi needs a fourth-generation metro rail, which will learn from the experience of the Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai metros.

The sub-committee headed by KMRL managing director Elias George includes D.D. Pahuja, director, Rolling Stock, Signalling and Electrical of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation; Jitendra Tyagi, director (Works) of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation; and A.K. Gupta, Additional Member of the Railway Board. District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed could not make it to the meeting.
The newly constituted board of directors of KMRL had entrusted the task of scrutinising, updating and reviewing the DPR to the sub-committee about a month ago. “The report will not be rewritten. Timely changes will be made to make optimal use of various technological advancements so that the best of technology can be adopted for the project,” Chief Secretary K Jayakumar had said at the board meeting held here in September.
The proposal to redefine KMRL’s organisational structure and the powers of its managing director will be discussed later. A sub-committee headed by Mr. George was constituted for this.
