Gadgil panel proposals welcomed

Efforts being made to implement the Gadgil committee recommendations to protect the ecologically-fragile Western Ghats are welcome, Kerala People’s Movement has said. People must be vigilant against efforts by quarry, land, sand and narcotic drugs mafia to thwart the implementation of the Gadgil panel recommendations. They were being supported by a section of politicians and religious heads, said Jacob Pulikkan, the chairman of the movement.

Broom revolution

The Aam Aadmi Party’s ‘Broom Revolution’ in Kerala got under way with a function organised in Kalamassery on Saturday. Membership campaigns, street plays, seminars, debates, flash mobs and public meetings will be held across the State as part of the initiative. People may express solidarity with the campaign by giving a ‘missed call’ to 080306 36329, said C.R. Neelakandan, State convenor of AAP.

FCI meeting

The State meeting of Food Corporation of India Executive Staff Union will be held on August 15 at BMS State Committee Hall here. Former national vice president of BMS Sadashivji will inaugurate the event and release the first copy of ‘Between the Lines’, the union’s monthly publication. Challenges faced by the FCI will be discussed.

Cleanliness pledge

NSS and NCC volunteers of St. Albert’s College have pledged to keep their homes and surroundings clean. A Swachhta pledge too was taken, says a press release issued by K. Madhusudhanan, NSS programme officer.
