Fresh pipe burst delays water supply restoration

January 31, 2017 12:00 am | Updated 07:39 am IST - KOCHI:

Work in progress to restore water supply near Vyttila. The work had been delayed for more than a week, prompting residents to take to the streets on Sunday night.

The work for restoring water supply to residents of Thykoodam that continued late into night on Monday encountered yet another issue, with a pipeline bursting as soon as the work on laying a new pipeline was over. The incident occurred soon after the new pipeline was recharged in the presence of the officials of the Kerala Water Authority along with councillor V.P. Chandran. Later, Mr. Chandran said water supply would be restored by Tuesday morning as efforts were on to check the damage at a new site in the same area.

Incidentally, residents of the area had to manage without piped water for over a week as the laying of the new pipeline was in progress on the Kunnara-Park-Pettah Road. With the work getting unduly delayed, the irate residents had blocked traffic on Sunday night.

Though KWA officials had said that the work would be over by Sunday night, it took one more day. An excavator was also brought in to expedite work.
