Family of three attacked

The goodna menace in Panangad resurfaced as three members of a family were assaulted during the early hours of Tuesday.

Jamaludeen (48), branch secretary of INTUC, was attacked by three persons wearing masks in his house at Nettoor at around 3.50 a.m. His wife Naseema (42), and son Faizal (24), were injured when they tried to stop the assailants.

Jamaludeen suffered cut injuries and his condition is reported to be serious. All three have been admitted to the Medical Trust Hospital, where they underwent surgeries.

The police said the initial probe did not indicate political reasons behind the attack and it could be a continuation of the goonda violence that has occurred in the region recently.
