The budget of the Mahatma Gandhi University gives major emphasis on launching online services, with a view to becoming student-friendly and elevating the university to the international level.
It will also develop software to enable distribution of question papers and evaluation of answer sheets online.
The deficit budget, which envisages an expenditure of Rs.311.97 crore and an income of Rs.238.74 crore, was presented by Syndicate Finance Committee convenor K. Sherafudeen.

The university will soon start a round-the-clock computerised student facilitation centre to dole out services. Accident insurance for students has been raised to Rs.2 lakh from the present Rs.1 lakh.
In a major transformation, question papers for university examinations will be distributed online and measures will be taken, with the support of the staff, to conduct evaluation of answer sheets online. Development of software and other technical requirements to implement this will be done within the university. The move will be introduced at the post-graduation level.
Among the services, certificates of eligibility, equivalence, and official transcript will be made available online. All procedures pertaining to PhD will be computerised. The university will also digitise exam records. A statutory department will be set up for nanotechnology and nanoscience.
