Speed trials in the Muttom-Palarivattom corridor of the Kochi metro are set to begin by the end of July. Three metro coaches arrived here by road on Friday from Alstom’s manufacturing unit at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is all set to commence static and dynamic tests on the three-coach train, the second to arrive for test and trial runs. The first set of three coaches had arrived earlier this year and had undergone extensive test runs on the 1-km-long test track within the coach maintenance yard at Muttom. It had also undergone two trial runs in the Muttom-Edapally corridor, touching a speed of 30 km per hour.
Trial runs of the second train will be conducted at higher speeds, touching 70 km to 80 km per hour. It will also undergo load tests. “Flaws identified in the first train [which was more of a prototype] have been rectified in the new train,” Elias George, Managing Director of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), said.

He added that seven more trains would arrive by the end of the year for commencement of commercial operations early next year.
