Customs officials at the Cochin International Airport here on Tuesday seized about eight kilograms of Iranian saffron approximately valued at Rs. 6 lakh from a passenger who arrived from Dubai. The passenger had concealed the saffron along with other personal effects in his checked-in baggage. Muhammad Akbar, a native of Kannur, who landed here at 10.40 p.m. by an Air India Express flight on Monday was detained for suspicious behaviour. The contraband was kept in 317 pouches, each weighing 25 grams.
