The district has 39,649 students appearing for this year's SSLC examination. The number will go up to 40,713 when 1,064 students from Lakshadweep coming under the Deputy Director of Education, Ernakulam, are also taken into account.
Deputy Director of Education M.D Murali said that final reports on the conduct of examinations had been received from various education districts. Of the regular students appearing for this year's examination, 19,972 are boys and 19,399 are girls. The number of students appearing for the examination privately is 278.
Among the students appearing for the examination within the limits of the Ernakulam Deputy Director of Education, 4,066 are from Scheduled Castes and 1,275 belong to Scheduled Tribes.

Aluva education district with 14,325 students tops the list in terms of number of students appearing for the examination. Ernakulam with 14,274 students is next in the line. Muvattupuzha education district accounts for 4,875 students and Kothamangalam 6,175 students. Ernakulam with 115 students has the most number of students appearing for the examination privately. In Lakshadweep, Androth island has the most number of students appearing for the examination – 201.
The district will have 313 examination centres spread over all four education districts. Muvattupuzha will have 55 centres, Kothamangalam 51, Ernakulam 98, and Aluva 109 centres.
Arrangements for the conduct of the examination to be held between March 12 and 24 are progressing at a fast pace. All examinations will be held in the afternoon. On the first day, the examination of the first paper of first language will be held from 1.45 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. On March 13, the examination in the second paper of first language will be held.
