Office premises found to be the breeding ground for mosquitoes

Preventive steps:Officials of the health wing of the corporation fogging the premises of the KSEB office at Vyttila on Friday.

While the government is on a mission to prevent the spread of dengue fever, the most prevalent monsoon diseases, the office of a government agency has been found to be the breeding ground for mosquitoes, the carriers of the disease.

The premises of the Vyttila Section of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), where four officials were diagnosed with dengue fever, has been found to be a breeding source for the vector Aedes egyptii that carries the virus. Officials of the health wing of the Kochi Corporation and District Vector Control Board, who inspected the premises, found a lot of junk on the premises. The scrap has been lying there for years, according to a statement issued by A.B. Sabu, Chairman of the Welfare Standing Committee of the corporation. Besides, unused tyres have been found.

The mosquito larvae were found to be breeding in the water collected in the scrap materials. Health wing and vector control officials swung into action by power spraying, fogging, and cleaning up the premises using bleaching power.
