A 15-year-old girl staged her own kidnap drama on Tuesday in a bid to teach her parents a lesson for reportedly scolding her. In the end, the Class X student’s efforts failed as she had to blurt out the truth before interrogators and go home with her parents.

The girl, who hails from a middle-class family in Fort Kochi, decided to fake her own abduction, allegedly after being inspired by some television soaps. Later, the girl revealed that she enacted the drama to teach her "strict parents” who scolded her for her poor performance in the recent school exams. According to the police, the girl had no idea as to where to go and just boarded a bus on the pretext of going to school in the morning.

She planned to further embellish her story by saying that she managed to escape from the clutches of an unidentified group including women, who kidnapped her and took her in a car. Around 10 A.M., she got down at Edappally junction and rushed to a nearby L.P. School and narrated her version of story to a school teacher there.

“She stuck to this story after the school authorities took her to the Church authorities, who in turn, alerted the police. At the police station, though, she revealed the truth after some time and added that she had been upset with her parents and came up with the idea to teach her parents a lesson’’, said C.J Martin, Circle Inspector, Kalamassery.
