: Kochi Metro’s civil contractor L&T will add another 1,500 workers to its existing 3,000-strong workforce to speed up works in the Aluva-Palarivattom corridor, it was decided at a high-level meeting held here on Thursday.

The firm would also increase the number of shutters used for concreting. It is noteworthy that there were concerns about the pace of metro’s civil works due to agitations and difficulties in procuring raw materials. Those who participated in the meeting included DMRC’s principal advisor E. Sreedharan and MD Mangu Singh.

Earlier in the day, Mr Singh along with DMRC’s director-works Jitender Tyagi and director-electrical A.K. Gupta inspected the metro corridor and Muttom coach-repair depot. Metro sources said that piling along the corridor would take another month to conclude, except in land taken over on Tuesday from Seematti Textiles. Girder launch in the city will pick pace with expected widening of Palarivattom-Kaloor stretch in a fortnight.
