14 H1N1 cases confirmed

After outbreaks of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and dengue fever, the district is now facing another threat. Fourteen cases of H1N1 were confirmed on Tuesday alone, taking the total to 25 cases since the start of the monsoon.

According to officials, the 14 cases that were confirmed on Tuesday included four children aged below two years, two children aged between two and four years and one pregnant woman.

The cases were reported from Alappuzha, Haripad, Purakkad, Pulinkunnu and Ramankary. Blood samples of several others who were suspected to have contracted the disease have also been collected for verification.

District Medical Officer K.M. Sirabuddin said that precautionary activities were strengthened and that the health wing was maintaining a tight vigil.
