He had set himself ablaze near Miyapur police station on November 15, unable to bear police ‘harassment’

Unable to bear the alleged harassment by the police, a 22-year-old man, who attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze on the highway near Miyapur police station on Friday night, succumbed to burns while undergoing treatment at the Gandhi Hospital on Sunday.

Vikram hailing from Maharashtra set himself afire and ran towards the police station. He then collapsed in front of the main gate. With the help of passers-by, the policemen put out the flames and rushed him to the Gandhi Hospital where he died on Sunday morning. Sources said Vikram took the drastic step due to police ‘torture’.

Theft cases were registered against him at Chandanagar, Miyapur and KPHB police stations. When contacted, Kukatpally (ACP) M. Malla Reddy denied the allegations and said that Vikram was committing offences since childhood.
