Youth stabs sister for marrying outside caste

Girl’s family feels family honour is at stake

In a bizarre incident, a youth attempted to murder his sister by stabbing her for marrying another caste person in Veerpur village of Bejjanki mandal on Saturday.

According to reports reaching here, victim Ch. Mounika studying degree final year married her classmate S. Sai of Thotapalli village of same mandal 15 days ago against the wishes of parents.

She was living with her husband in Thotapalli village. Three days ago, her mother went to her in-laws place and threatened to commit suicide by consuming pesticide and asked her to return to the village.

Ms. Mounika returned to her native village only to harassed and beaten for marrying person from another caste.

On Saturday, she called her husband Sai to come and pick her up as her parents were harassing her.

Hearing the conversation, her brother Nagaraju got angry and in a fit of anger stabbed her with a knife. The villagers found her lying in a pool of blood and shifted her to government area hospital in Karimnagar town.

Her condition is stated to be critical. According to Bejjanki sub-inspector of police Abhilash as case has been registered and investigation is on.
