Cheated women of ₹20 lakh on matrimonial sites

Cyber Crime Police apprehended a man for duping women on matrimonial sites and taking money on the pretext of paying for his mother’s cancer treatment.

A woman complainant, who was searching for potential matches on a matrimonial site, came across the profile of R. Kumar Nallapati, operated by the accused, N. Jaeevan Kumar (23) of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, said police.

She contacted him over phone. They exchanged photos and decided to get married. After winning her trust, the accused got her to reveal her credit card and debit card numbers, saying he was in dire need of money to pay for his mother’s treatment.

Police said he took ₹2.4 lakh by using her cards and then stopped responding to her calls. A cheating case was booked against Kumar, who is said to have cheated women to the tune of ₹20 lakh.

Cabbie arrested

A cab driver was apprehended for robbing a passenger. D. Srinivas Reddy (38) of Nacharam picked up P. Suvarna Devi from Chilkalguda on Tuesday to drop her in Boduppal. However, he changed the route and headed towards Nacharam. When the woman objected, he dragged her out of the car, snatched her phone and cash, police said. A case has been booked.
