600 schoolchildren bare their talents at The Hindu ‘Handwriting Skills’ contest

More than 600 schoolchildren participated in the ‘Handwriting Skills’ contest conducted by The Hindu in association with ROOTS International School of Business and Management here on Tuesday.

The students, who meticulously copied a page from former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s biography were those who cleared the preliminary round, which had more than 6,000 participants from over 40 schools, to showcase their skills at the competition held on FAPCCI premises.

Girls outshine boys

Curiously, girls outdid boys, bagging five of the six prizes in both junior and senior categories, besides winning all the six consolation prizes. The only boy who won a prize was K. Thanay of St. Joseph’s Public School, King Kothi.

Junior category winners

In the junior category, A. Sarah Angel from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Begumpet, stood first and won a cash prize of Rs. 4,000, while V. Gayatri from Holy Family High School, Trimulgherry, came second to receive Rs. 3,000. K. Thanay’s handwriting fetched him the third place along with the Rs. 2,000 prize money.

I. Rajeshwari from Johnson Grammar School (ICSE), J. Deekshita from Geetha High School, Alwal, and I. Varshitha from KGK Vidya Bhavan, Gandhi Nagar, won the first, second, and third consolation prizes respectively.

Senior category winners

The first prize winner in the category was N. Sharanya from St. Ann’s High School, Bolarum, while B. Zuri Zaneta from Little Flower High School, Abids, and P. Bhanushree, from DAV Public School, Safilguda, came second and third respectively. They were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 4,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 respectively.

Meenakshi Adakai of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Begumpet, won the first consolation prize, while B. Hannah of Little Flower School, Uppal, and Keervani Jukanti from P. Obul Reddy Public School, Banjara Hills, came second and third. All three of them were also awarded cash prizes of Rs. 500 each.

The prizes were handed to the winners by Prof. B.P. Padala, chairman, ROOTS International School of Business and Management, A. Srinivas, president, FAPCCI, and P. Ranga Reddy, regional general manager, The Hindu , Hyderabad.
