A 26-year-old woman, after being sexually assaulted by her neighbour and his friend on Saturday midnight, mustered courage and went to the Amberpet police station to file a complaint in the early hours of Sunday. Her husband was not at home as he works as a private bus conductor and was on night duty.
The woman reached the police station at 4.30 a.m. with her four-year-old child in tow to register her complaint following which the police swung into action and detained the accused persons. She was sent to Osmania General Hospital for medical examination.

The police said cases under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force against woman with an intent to outrage her modesty), 452 (trespass) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC were registered against the culprits based on a complaint given by the woman. “If need be we will alter the IPC sections after getting the medical report,” said DCP (East) R. Jaya Lakshmi. The incident occurred when the woman woke up around 1 a.m. to attend nature’s call and while she was returning to her house. Her neighbour and his friend overpowered her and dragged her into the house and forced themselves on her.

They also reportedly shot a video and threatened to circulate it if she lodged a complaint. In spite of this she went to the police seeking action against the perpetrators. The police after detaining the accused examined the mobile phones and found no trace of the video clip. “Probably, they might have deleted it,” they said.

BJP State president G. Kishan Reddy visited the victim’s house and criticised the police for not registering a rape case straightaway. He also charged the police with turning a blind eye to complaints about the culprits’ rowdy behaviour in the locality in recent times.
