Inspector Vishnu Murthy accused of harassing women

A suicide attempt by a woman constable created tension in the city on Thursday.

The constable, E. Jamuna Rani, working at the Subedari women’s police station, slit her wrist in an attempt to commit suicide alleging harassment by her superiors. She was rushed to a private hospital by family members and is said to be out of danger. Other women cops working in the station allege that they have been frequently subjected to harassment by the in-charge of the station, Inspector Vishnu Murthy.

The women cops had earlier filed a complaint against the Inspector to Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu regarding the issue.

In the past, they had taken out a rally to the Commissioner’s Office protesting ill-treatment by the Inspector but no action has been taken against him.

“He uses vulgar language against us every day. His behaviour disturbs us deeply. Every day we are asked to salute him through the CCTV camera. Otherwise, we are marked absent. He demands many more things from us which we cannot reveal. We demand serious action against him,” said the women cops working at the station.
