Six children returning home in autorickshaw have miraculous escape

A woman was crushed to death, while six children returning home from school miraculously escaped after an RTC bus hit a bike and an autorickshaw at Abids on Friday.

Premalata, 51, was riding pillion on the Honda Activa being driven by her husband, Raghavacharyulu, 55, when the bus of Hyderabad Central University depot hit them from the side near Cherma’s showroom around 4 p.m.

The woman came under the rear wheel of the bus.

Instant death

She died instantly as the bus dragged her for a few feet before hitting another autorickshaw in the front.

The three-wheeler’s metal body got mangled, but, fortunately, six children travelling in the autorickshaw escaped unhurt.

“The driver was apparently negligent and tried to recklessly swerve shifting from one lane to another resulting in the accident,” the Abids Sub-Inspector, K. Ranga Subbaiah, said.

The driver fled, abandoning the bus on the road and bringing the movement of traffic to a halt.

No chance

Raghavacharyulu, a priest of a temple at Raidurg, told the police that he had no chance to rescue his wife. “Both of us fell off the Activa. Before I could understand what had happened, the bus ran over my wife before my eyes,” he said.

Traffic hit

Traffic was thrown out of gear for over an hour on the bustling Gunfoundry-Abids stretch due to the accident.
