Woman charred to death after cracker falls on hut

A 50-year-old woman was charred to death after a burnt firecracker fell on her hut at Erramanzil on Saturday midnight.

K. Nagamani was asleep when a rocket fell on her hut at around 1 a.m. Soon flames engulfed the hut that was covered with plastic material covers.

Local residents rushed to the spot and doused the flames not before they found Nagamani’s body burnt beyond recognition, Punjagutta Sub-Inspector K. Ranga Subbaiah said.

The woman could not raise an alarm as she was asleep. The woman was alone at the time of the incident as her husband Sangameswar had gone to his native place in Ranga Reddy district. Her son Murali Mohan and daughter-in-law stay separately, police said. Police have registered a case. The body was handed over to family members after an autopsy at Gandhi Hospital.

In a separate incident, a 28-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging at her house at Moosapet on Saturday. B. Vijaya took the drastic step after a quarrel with her husband Krishna Naik over a family dispute, police said.
