Reports are rampant about atrocities against Dalits going unrepresented, unreported, and often unregistered due to laxity or collusion by local police. The same was reiterated by the Secretary of State SC Commission R. Subba Rao when he said, at an event on Friday, that 95 per cent of the cases are declared false by police themselves.
However, the Atrocity Tracking and Monitoring (ATM) system, soon to be introduced by the National Coalition for Strengthening POA Act (NCSPA) in association with National Dalit Movement for Justice, will make sure that each noticed case of atrocity against Dalits is reported, registered and legal action initiated. The online monitoring system was explained on Friday at a regional workshop organised by Dalit Sthree Sakthi.
The website, presently accessible only to the members of the coalition, will work as an online national repository of all the atrocity cases and fact finding reports thereof. The portal can receive SMSes from any mobile to the number 9898915455, with the tag ‘NCSPOA’. Immediately, automatic alerts will be sent to registered organisations working in the corresponding area.
