Web counselling for transparency in teachers’ transfers: Srihari

Don’t get misled by false propaganda, Deputy CM tells teachers

The State Government has asserted that web counselling system has been adopted for transfer of teachers to ensure transparency in the process and the system has been put in place after receiving the consent of the Joint Action Committee of Teachers.

Deputy Chief Minister (Education) Kadiyam Srihari said after Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao gave his consent for teachers’ transfers, the department had convened meetings with teachers’ JACs on May 21 and June 2. Representatives of the teachers’ JACs who attended the meeting gave their consent for introduction of web counselling option and requested the government to ensure that promotions were given to eligible teachers simultaneously.

The government had assured that promotions would be given to teachers through web counselling after the unified service rules issue which was awaiting adjudication in the court was finalised.

Orders were issued paving the way for teachers’ transfers on June 16 and the government had also accepted the teachers’ demand for separate counselling for headmasters, school assistants, secondary grade teachers and other categories.

In all, 75,318 teachers submitted their applications for transfers and the government had accordingly released the list of seniority and vacancies in line with its orders (GO Ms 16).

Complaints rectified

Taking note of the complaints made by the teachers’ unions on the errors in the lists, the government had rectified them and announced fresh lists. A section of teachers, however, took to legal recourse against the web counselling process and the court had reserved its orders to June 26.

He criticised certain unions for creating “unnecessary confusion” among teachers and a section of these union members were trying to obstruct the process which was progressing in a smooth manner. The government had decided to inquire into the sources of messages that were being received by aspiring teachers and necessary action would be initiated against those found guilty of creating confusion among the teachers’ community, he said.

Technical glitches

He appealed to teachers not to heed to the false propaganda being taken up by a section of union leaders asserting that the government was committed to ensure that eligible candidates got their due. He asserted that there was no scope for any intervention in the web counselling process as also change in options. The government had deferred the counselling for a day in view of the technical glitches encountered in the system, but the process would resume after the schedule was revised.
