The drinking water grid project taken up by the Telangana Government would be developed as the model drinking water project for the country, Minister for IT, Panchayat Raj, Rural Development K.T. Rama Rao said here on Saturday.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Ltd, WAPCOS, for the engineers of Rural Water Supply department on the online pipeline management software here, the Minister said the project would be completed in the next three years to guarantee protected drinking water as a right to the people of Telangana.
The project aimed at providing safe drinking water to about 85 lakh households would cover over 25 Assembly constituencies every year and people in the completed phases would be given water accordingly. Mr. Rama Rao stated that engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) system and mobilisation advances were cancelled in case of the drinking water grid project to avoid any scope for corruption in the massive scheme involving thousands of crores of rupees. Unlike any other government in the country, the line survey and project designs of drinking water grid were done only by the engineers of the department and the project proposal was appreciated by several central government organisations including the HUDCO coming forward to finance it. The new software would make its implementation as a smart project helping real time monitoring of the project works from Hyderabad.
