Warangal corporators vie for mayor post

Try their best to meet KCR or KTR

With Mayor N. Narender being elected as Warangal East MLA, the lobbying for the Mayor post has began within the ruling party. Many corporators have already started their efforts to please the party high command, trying their best to meet Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and party executive working president K.T. Rama Rao.

The Congress won four, BJP and CPI (M) one each while independents won in eight divisions. Officials said they decided to proceed with this method to avoid candidates and party agents entering the counting halls at a time. The TRS party had won 44 divisions out of total 58 divisions of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corportation (GWMC) in 2016.

Mr. Narender won as the corporator of division 19 in the corporation elections and was elected as the mayor.

He was supposed to get the Assembly ticket in 2014 but was denied. He was asked to make way for Konda Surekha who had just joined the party then.

Corporators were pushing BCs and OCs sentiment while some said those belonging to the Warangal city must be given the chance.

List of aspirants

Those who have been trying for the coveted post include senior leaders Gunda Prakash Rao, Vaddiraj Ganesh, Dasyam Vijay Bhaskar, Nalla Swarupa Rani, Gundu Ashritha Reddy and Deputy Mayor Sirajuddin.

The followers for Gunda Prakash contend that he has been with the TRS for a long time but he was not given a suitable position in the party.

Senior advocate and corporator from division 27, Vaddiraju Ganesh too, has been with the party for a long time and participated in the Statehood agitation dedicatedly. He is known for his charity work and enjoys good reputation among public.

Gundu Sudharani, the former Rajya Sabha MP is also making moves to try and get her daughter-in-law and corporator for division 24, Gundu Ashritha Reddy, the Mayor’s seat.
