Volunteers of animal and bird welfare organisations rescued as many as 28 pigeons during the kite festival in the last three days.

According to a press release issued here, 16 of the birds, which were injured during kite flying, were released after first-aid. Compared to last year, there were fewer instances of injuries to birds, and it was attributed to less number of kites flying this time.

The release added that members of various organisations, including Bharatiya Prani Mitra Sangh, Sahayog Organisation, Roja Animal Welfare Society and Goshala Federation, have been on the streets for the last three days to rescue the injured birds. A helpline (Ph.9394005600 and 9246175600) will also be operational till January 26.
