3,390 research papers published by faculty between 2011-2016

The University of Hyderabad has figured in the top 601–650 universities in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings-2018.

Only 12 Indian institutions and universities have made it to the top 700 this year with IIT-Delhi topping at 172 rank while IISc, Bengaluru gets 190th rank. Only four universities — University of Delhi (481-490); Jadavpur University (601-650), University of Hyderabad (601-650) and Anna University (651-700) figured in the top.

UoH Vice-Chancellor P. Appa Rao told a press conference that at 254 globally, the Citations per Faculty indicator was the strongest one for the university. As per the QS, 3,390 research papers have been published by the faculty between 2011-2016 and they have a total citation of 21,639.

The university has also performed exceptionally well both in India and at the global level in the Citations per Faculty indicator. While it has a score of 48.1 to the average country score of 42.2, it has a score of 57.2 to the Global Median of 32.6, he said. Till last year, the university was being ranked only in three subjects – English, chemistry and physics.

Prof. Appa Rao attributed the achievement to the faculty and students and said it would put more responsibility on the university to reach higher standards. “We hope to increase publications quality that will read and be cited world over to enable us to move to top 200 club by next year,” he said.

The QS World University Rankings are published annually by British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The team at QS has analysed over 75 million citations from more than 12 million papers, 115,000 survey responses from employers and academics and considered more than 4,000 universities before evaluating 980 of them.
