Poles, transformers to be shifted to facilitate road-widening

Despite the precarious ropewalk it is forced to perform in the backdrop of severe power shortage in the State, the Central Power Distribution Company (CPDCL) is confident of supplying uninterrupted power to the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-11) scheduled to be held here between October 1 and October 19.

In order to prepare for the unforeseen, the company is planning to adjust loads between feeders, so that the two main feeders supplying to the venue are kept relatively free.

Standby supply

The two main venues, HICC and HITEX are, as of now, fed from the 33KV feeder carrying supply from the 132KV Madhapur substation up to HITEX.

Standby supply is given from the line carrying power from the 132KV Jubilee Hills substation up to CMC, Gachibowli.

Dedicated lines

“Both these lines have other loads too at present. We are making them almost dedicated to the venue by accommodating the other loads on the 33KV feeders from Gachibowli up to Madhapur,” informed the Chairman-Managing Director of CPDCL, G.Anantha Ramu, ruling out the possibility of overloading of lines.

AP Transco is already augmenting the capacity of a power transformer in the 132KV Gachibowli substation from 50MVA to 80MVA, in consideration of the request by CPDCL, he informed. Further, in case of any interruption, the heavy-duty generator sets available at the venue will start functioning automatically, he said.

Cosmetic works

In addition to these, the company is taking up cosmetic works of shifting power lines and poles around the venue and on the approach roads leading to the venue.

Major works include removal of a 33KV overhead line on the main road near HITEX in favour of underground cabling to be extended towards National Academy of Construction, together with removal of a four-pole structure supporting the overhead lines.

Underground cabling

This apart, poles and transformers will be shifted to facilitate road-widening on various stretches, including Secunderabad-HICC, Taj Falaknuma-Botanical Garden, Kavadiguda-HICC, Abids, and Sanjeevareddy Nagar Junction-Cyber Towers.

Underground cabling will be taken up inside the Quli Qutb Shah Tombs complex which is expected to draw tourists, and at Fateh Darwaza in Langar Houz. Aerial-bunched cabling is being proposed at Mysamma temple in Shaikpet.

Amount sanctioned

The Metro Zone, Ranga Reddy Zone and Master Plan wing of CPDCL have received over Rs. 1 crore each to expedite the works on priority.
