Scores of drivers partnering with taxi-haling app, Uber held a protest rally on Thursday in Madhapur accusing the management of cheating them. The reason for the protests is due to sudden stoppage of promised incentives based on trips and logging hours, according to the drivers. Though the drivers and the management tried to hold talks on the issues raised on Thursday afternoon, there was not much headway.

Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA) president Syed Nizamuddin, who went to the Uber’s office in Madhapur along with the agitating drivers said that the management refused to speak to them if they come as a union.

“During individual talks with drivers, the management out rightly rejected their demand for giving promised incentives and business. They were told that either they would have to work with the changed rules or quit their jobs. The management did not consider the drivers’ plea that they purchased new vehicles by borrowing money on huge interest based on the promise by Uber that they would earn about Rs. 70,000 per month,” he said. Angered by the Uber management’s refusal to accept the demands, the drivers are planning a day-long hunger strike this week. “Now we are left with no option but to go on agitation mode. We urge the Telangana Government to intervene into the matter as this issue pertains to the lives of nearly 15,000 drivers and their families,” said Mr. Nizamuddin.
