A construction worker's two-year-old son, Anirudh, playing along with his elder sibling in front of their hut at Shalivahananagar in Malakpet was kidnapped by two youths on Thursday.

The boy's parents, Venkatesh and Renuka, both daily-wage earners, were away at their workplace when two strangers wearing overcoats came to the locality near Musi bank around 9.30 a.m. where Anirudh and his brother, three-year-old Pavan, were playing.

They caught Anirudh, made him sit on a two-wheeler and sped away. A startled Pavan started crying and came running to an old man, P. Venkanna, nearby. “I didn't see the boy being taken away but noticed a scooter speeding away. They must have made the boy stand in front,” he told the police.

Identity and motive behind the abduction were not yet known. Anirudh's parents too were clueless and maintained that they had no enmity with anyone in the locality. Hailing from Shilpakuntla village of Nuthankal mandal in Nalgonda district, Venkatesh came to city 10 years ago. He was presently working with a mason in Uppal. He has three children. The elder daughter, five-year-old Kavyasree, was in the school when the boy was kidnapped. The abductors did not make any ransom calls.
