A delegation comprising an elected representative, senior officials and advisor to the Telangana Government recently pitched for support of NITI Aayog (erstwhile Planning Commission) for the Photonics Valley project in the State.

In a presentation, the delegation said photonics technology needs to be co-opted into the various programmes of the Centre like semi-conductor fabs, national supercomputing mission, Digital India, cyber security, smart cities, high-speed data networks and Indian processor and advanced avionics. “Photonics can provide better alternative in various technological permutations for tremendous efficiency and cost arbitrage,” a release from Photonics Valley Corporation said.

The Corporation CEO P. Madhav was a member of the delegation led by Member of Parliament Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, Advisor to the State Government and former bureaucrat B.V. Papa Rao and IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan.

Photonics is about use of light particles for IT, instead of copper. The State Government had in February this year signed a memorandum of understanding with Photonic Corporation of Los Angeles to jointly develop an ecosystem in Telangana for evolving, testing and producing next generation chips and products by leveraging photonics.

The Government is keen on developing manufacturing facilities for the technology besides support skill development and education in the field, the release said.
