TS opens 79.15 lakh Jan Dhan accounts

31.30 per cent of them zero balance accounts

A total of 79.15 lakh accounts have been opened so far in Telangana under the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana, according to State Level Bankers’ Committee president and State Bank of Hyderabad Managing Director Santanu Mukherjee.

Of these 63.38 lakh or 80 per cent of the accounts have been provided with RuPay cards and 52.80 lakh (67 per cent) seeded with Aadhaar.

The share of zero balance accounts is 31.30 per cent and it needs to be brought down, Mr. Mukherjee told an SLBC meeting held here on Wednesday. An official release said that the meeting reviewed the performance of the banks for the quarter ended December 2015. It was attended by Telangana Finance Secretary Navin Mittal and senior bankers. The share of agricultural advances in the total advances marginally improved from 14.85 per cent to 14.89 per cent.
