Three of a family died while two others sustained serious injuries when a speeding lorry mowed down the moped they were riding near Trimulgherry RTA office late on Thursday night.
A couple, along with three of their children, was coming from Trimulgherry junction to Karkhana around 10 p.m. when the truck coming in same direction rammed the two-wheeler from behind.
Death was instant for the two kids and their father, North zone DCP B. Sumathi said. The woman and another kid were rushed to Gandhi Hospital. Confusion prevailed over the number of fatalities in the accident as the injured were shifted from the spot to nearby hospitals by people passing by.

IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao, who was travelling in the same direction, stopped by on seeing the gory accident. He rushed one of the injured kids in his vehicle to a private hospital at Vikrampuri. From there, the kid was later reportedly shifted to Gandhi Hospital.
“It was a GHMC truck. Looks like the driver was drunk,” the police said. Tension prevailed in the area as residents of the locality began gathering in groups, expressing anger over the accident and trying to attack the truck.
