Nizamabad MP and Telangana Jagruti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has asserted that the State Government is committed to taking steps for women’s empowerment as is evident from the string of welfare and development programmes launched for them after the TRS came to power.
Women, who had suffered neglect at the hands of the previous governments, were being given priority in all sectors to enable them to compete with men.
The Government had accordingly given an opportunity to women in market committees, and earmarked 50 per cent seats for women in GHMC elections while it was made mandatory to register the three-acre land promised to Dalits and double bedroom houses for weaker sections in women’s name .

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao took a decision to give nominated posts to women who had participated in the struggle for separate Telangana and a three-member committee comprising Ms. Kavitha, Assembly Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy and Karimnagar ZP chairperson Tula Uma had been constituted in this direction.
Ms. Kavitha who participated in the International Women’s Day celebrations at the Telangana Bhavan announced that the committee would finalise its report soon.
She expressed concern over the false propaganda launched against the Chief Minister by some vested interests and exhorted women to effectively rebut such charges.

Rangareddy ZP chairperson Sunita Mahender Reddy showered praise on the Chief Minister for giving over 50 per cent quota for women in every field while Ms. Uma exhorted women to focus on education as it would go a long way in avoiding dependence and utilisation of opportunities provided to them in different fields.
