Tributes paid to Rajiv Gandhi

Glowing tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 70 birth anniversary here on Wednesday.

Telangana PCC chief Ponnala Laksmaiah led the party cadres in paying floral tributes to the former Prime Minister. He also visited Somajiguda junction and garlanded the late leader’s statue.

Addressing the gathering at Gandhi Bhavan, he said late Rajiv Gandhi had laid the foundation for Information Technology in the country. Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy, Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao, former MP Madhu Yaskhi, protocol committee chairman Venugopal Rao, general secretaries – T. Kumar Rao, C. J. Srinivas Rao, official spokespersons Addanki Dayakar, V. Krishnamohan and Konagala Mahesh Kumar and others were present.

Earlier, Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana run was organised from four places in the city to mark the birth anniversary. Organised by Mr. Hanumantha Rao, the run was flagged off from Mahatma Gandhi statue, Secunderabad, Jawaharlal Nehru statue, Abids, Dr. Ambedkar statue, Tank Bund and Babu Jagjivan Ram statue, Nizam College. The run culminated at Rajiv Gandhi statue at Somajiguda.
