Municipal sanitation workers need to be treated with respect by local residents, Amala Akkineni, founder chairperson of Blue Cross Hyderabad, said here on Wednesday.

Participating in the ‘Earth Day 2015’ programme organised by the city-based NGO Sukuki Exnora, she objected to the ill-treatment meted out to municipal workers and ‘subraks’ and said that people need to give up being rash towards them.

“They keep your environs clean. Please be kind to them and offer a cup of tea or water if possible,” said Amala Akkineni, also one of the appointed Swachh Bharat ambassadors. The film actress turned animal rights activist also called upon the State government to set up a separate ‘Swachh Bharat’ cell which could be easily approached by the citizens.
