Death came calling for three youngsters, including a teenager, around 12.30 a.m. on Sunday. The youths hailing from Nalgonda district died in a freak accident near Gurramguda on the eastern fringes of the city.

Dhanavath Sai Kumar (24), his cousin Dhanavath Vamshi (18) of Venkatadripalem in Jamputanda and their relative Khethavath Ganapathi (21), a lab technician from Chinamunigal near Miryalaguda, met a gory end when an SUV knocked them down. At the time, they were standing on the roadside near Runway Food Court on the Nagarjunasagar highway after having tea. Police said the victims were thrown off more than 30 metres in the air in the impact of the accident.

The vehicle was coming from Sagar ring road and proceeding towards Injapur. “The SUV driver seems to have lost control and hit the victims, before coming to a halt. A search is on to nab the driver who fled from the spot,” said Vanasthalipuram inspector A. Venkataiah.

Video footage showed the speeding SUV hitting the trio. As a result, they were flung into the air and died on the spot. They were staying in a rented house at Omkar Nagar under Vanasthalipuram police limits and were on their way to a house-warming ceremony at Injapur village when the accident occurred.

Vamshi, one of the victims, was pursuing his diploma in medical laboratory technology and had come to Hyderabad two years ago with his cousin Sai Kumar. Police said the car driver also suffered injuries.
