Three more die of swine flu

Three more persons succumbed to complications arising out of swine flu in Hyderabad, taking the overall death toll in Telangana to 25 in January.

While health officials have decided to delay announcement of fatalities, it is reliably learnt that three persons, 45-year-old female from Ramanthapur, 50-year-old male from Old Bowenpally and another male of the same age from Warangal have died in various private hospitals in Hyderabad. It is learnt that the swine flu related deaths have occurred between January 21 and 23. Between Saturday and Sunday, a total of 89 fresh cases of swine flu have tested positive in Hyderabad. With this, the overall number of swine flu patients in January has risen to 388.

Meanwhile, a few Air Force personnel from Air Force Station at Begumpet have also tested positive. The Air Force personnel were participating in the rehearsals for the Republic Day Parade. All of them were admitted to the Military Hospital, Secunderabad. The ground zero of swine flu outbreak in Hyderabad, Gandhi Hospital continues to remain packed to the brim. At the moment, close to 35 patients are admitted there with swine flu.

“We are monitoring the situation closely. We are doing all we could to treat the 20-day-old baby. Public should continue to stay away from large gatherings like Numaish or even Republic Day celebrations,” advised Swine Flu Coordinator, Gandhi Hospital, Dr. Narasimhulu.
