The Hindu lensmen win three press photo awards

Freeze: The photo ‘Unexpected’ in the Sports category clicked by K.V. S. Giri, Special News Photographer at Hyderabad.

The Hindu lens men bagged three awards in the 2nd India Press Photo Awards - 2017 organised by the State Photojournalists Association of AP at Vijayawada.

As per the results announced here, K.R. Deepak, the chief news photographer in Visakhapatnam bagged first place carrying ₹8,000 cash prize in the Sports category for the photograph named ‘Bat..breaks..”.

Principal News Photographer V. Raju in Vijayawada bagged the ‘Jnanpith Awardee Ravuri Bharadwaja Memorial Award’ for the photograph ‘Green channel’ that shows people on road paying floral tributes to the organs of an accident victim which were being transported to the receiver. The memorial award carries a cash prize of ₹ 6,000.

Also, K.V. S. Giri, Special News Photographer at Hyderabad won third place for the photograph ‘Unexpected’ in the Sports category and a cash prize of ₹ 4, 000.

Yarlagadda Sreeramulu Memorial Overall Best Image Award was bagged by photographer Sunderchandan of Jammu for his photograph ‘Night vigil at India border’. The cash prize for the award for ₹ 15, 000. The contest was held in three categories: sports, spot news and general news. Shanth Kumar SL of Mumbai won best image award and N. Rajesh Reddy of Hyderabad won first prize in the spot news category. In general news category, V. V. Satyanarayana won best image award and JS Kuman won first prize. In sports category, Shibasish Saha of Kolkata won best image award.
