Students’ JAC plans to block the varsity’s 76th meeting of Academic Council scheduled to be held today

The University of Hyderabad (UoH) administration and the Students’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) are set to lock horns on Wednesday, as the latter plans to block the varsity’s 76th meeting of Academic Council, which is to be held on Wednesday.

The campus security might also be enhanced as the JAC has a given a 'Chalo HCU' call, asking people and students from across the city to come to UoH to protest against restrictions currently imposed there.

According to a JAC member, the protesting students will try to prevent the Academic Council meeting, which is expected to be held at the south campus in UoH on Wednesday. It may be recalled that the meeting was previously postponed by the administration after the vandalism and police lathi-charge on students on March 22.

'Lot of people likely to protest blockade'

“'Students have been going to many institutions in Hyderabad to mobilise support for the ‘Chalo HCU’ call, and lot of people are expected to turn up at the gate in protest against the blockade imposed by the UoH administration,” said a JAC member, requesting anonymity.

Last week, about 50 students had blocked the entrance of the UoH administration building, demanding Vice-Chancellor Appa Rao’s resignation. A UoH official said that given the current tense situation, security on the campus might be enhanced.
