TDP leader V. Pratap Reddy was arrested by the city police for allegedly disturbing order in the wake of a Osmania University student’s suicide in December last.
The university had witnessed protests after E. Murali committed suicide on December 3 in his hostel. The protesting students had not allowed Murali’s body to be shifted, leading to scuffles. The police had booked cases against Reddy, holding him responsible for protests, and also taken 20 students into custody.
On Tuesday, additional charges were levelled against Reddy and he was arrested again. Protesting against his arrest, Reddy, who is Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s political rival in Gajwel, sat on hunger strike.
